Malnutrition is the #1 cause of preventable child deaths and claims the lives of 2.6 million children annually, deaths that can be prevented thru basic nutritional support. Even here in America, 1 in 5 children faces hunger and 1 in 4 children worldwide suffers from severe malnutrition, which often stunts growth and results in disease and illness.
Most poor, third world children live almost exclusively on basic staples that are accessible and filling such as rice and corn, but they lack essential vitamins, minerals and protein, nutrients which are essential in a child’s development. Poverty is the major reason why children don’t have access to adequate food.
20 million children are suffering from malnutrition, with 45% of all childhood deaths attributable to malnutrition. One child dies every 12 seconds of malnutrition and millions of children around the world are suffering from the “hidden hunger” of lack micronutrients that can also lead to disease and death. Every year hundreds of millions of children and pregnant women are affected by malnutrition.
Treatment protocols for severe malnutrition have become more efficient in recent years, but most children, especially in rural areas, have little or no access to such services, with less than 10% of them receiving the help they need. With your support, we can provide essential food and nutrients to millions of kids who need them THE MOST but could NEVER have access to them.
Even here in America… there’s widespread malnutrition, with approximately 13 million American children living in homes that have limited access to food and suffer from a lack basic vitamins, minerals and protein in their diet, which are essential to a child’s development and can lead to disease and stunted growth. Low-income meals are often heavy in sugar and fat, and lacking critical nutrients. When children do not get a sufficient amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals, it can result in dizziness, fatigue and weight loss, and long-term malnutrition can lead to stunted growth and mental and physical disabilities.
With your help, we can raise awareness about widespread malnutrition, while providing ongoing support to help at-risk populations gain access to life changing food. Well-nourished people can learn new skills, think critically and contribute to their communities. Together we can help give children a healthy start and empower them to lead healthier, happier, more productive lives and make a positive impact upon society as a whole.
